By now, you may have read the press release from the Minister of National Revenue and an email to all call centre employees announcing measures to be taken by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) to deal with tax and benefit information concerning the emergency benefits and other matters related to the tax filing season.

Annual Leave Requests

Agreement Between UTE and CRA

Pursuant to clause 34.05(b)(i) of the Collective Agreement between the Canada Revenue Agency and the Public Service Alliance of Canada, in light of the circumstances surrounding the current COVID-19 crisis, the parties agree to extend the period for employees to submit their annual leave requests for the summer period on or before June 30, 2020. Further, the parties agree that the employer will respond to such requests for annual leave within 15 working days after having received such requests.

Who would have imagined a mere 7 months ago that our lives and those of everyone around us would be turned upside down?  Businesses closed or significantly curtailed operations; schools and daycares were forced to close.  All of this resulted in thousands of Canadians losing their jobs or having to make choices to care for elderly parents or school-age children for which there was no care readily available. 

COVID-19 vaccine requirement for CRA employees

TO ALL MEMBERS OF THE UNION OF TAXATION EMPLOYEES

Dear Sisters, Brothers and Friends,

As you are aware, the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) released its policy on COVID-19 vaccine requirements for all Agency employees via a message from the Commissioner dated November 8, 2021. Before the issuance of this message, the National Office of the Union of Taxation Employees (UTE) was provided with a draft copy of the policy.  We requested to be consulted and we were invited to a consultation meeting on October 22, 2021 to discuss the draft policy.

COVID-19: Changes to the Public Service Health Care Plan

Due to COVID-19, PSAC has agreed with the employer to make some temporary amendments to the Public Service Health Care Plan, which will assist members in accessing the services that they need.  

These changes include:

As you know, the crisis situation related to the COVID-19 pandemic is escalating across the country.

Many of you have expressed your concerns and worries about this situation, particularly those of you who still have to report to any of the Canada Revenue Agency offices to perform your duties.

We fully understand that many of you are concerned about this unprecedented situation and we share the same concerns.

COVID-19: UTE-PSAC Strike votes suspended

As the number of reported cases of the coronavirus increases in Canada, it is important that the PSAC and its Components take precautions and act proactively to safeguard the health and safety of our members, as well as the Canadian public.

In keeping with recommendations from both local and national health authorities, the union has made the difficult decision to suspend activities that would require a large gathering of members.
