PSAC/UTE Members take action in support of a fair contract

Compensation, duration and new protections argued before Public Interest Commission (PIC)

Last week PSAC/UTE members across Canada took action in support of our bargaining team and a fair contract. From St John’s to Victoria, members sent the message to CRA that we deserve a fair contract.

At the same time, our bargaining team argued our case for contract improvements before the Public Interest Commission in Ottawa. Representatives for the Agency presented the CRA’s arguments against the improvements that we are seeking. 

Our team made a case in support of a three-year contract, a fair compensation package, new scheduling rights and protections for employees. We made clear to the Commission our objective to achieve protections in this round of bargaining against the government’s slash and burn plans for the public service.

Under federal legislation, the Commission has 30 days following the hearing to submit its recommendations.  This deadline can be extended if deemed necessary by the Chair of the Commission. The Commission’s recommendations are non-binding. Once the PIC recommendations are made public and the Union has had the opportunity to analyse them, the parties will reconvene in negotiations. At present we are in the process of setting dates for early December and January.
