2. NEW BUSINESS
MOTION: Donation to the Nunavut Employees Union

WHEREAS 13 members of the Nunavut Employees Union working for the Iqaluit Housing Authority have been on strike since March 17, 2023; and
WHEREAS the Iqaluit Housing Authority decided to locked them out two days later; and
WHEREAS the Iqaluit Housing Authority has brought in replacement workers to do the jobs of unionized employees.
BE IT RESOLVED THAT UTE donates an amount of $5,000 to the Nunavut Employees Union to assist 13 of its members working for the Iqaluit Housing Authority who have been on strike since March 17, 2023

MOTION: Donation to “Help a girl out”

WHEREAS "Help a girl out" distributes menstrual products for those who need within North America and the Caribbean.
BE IT RESOLVED THAT the UTE donate $2500 to "Help a girl out" for the distribution and donation of menstrual products.
Context: the founder (who does this out of her basement in Brampton) grew up in poverty and experienced the shame in not having the proper hygiene products when required. She started locally and grew exponentially into international activism distributing the products throughout Canada and now other countries including Jamaica, Guyana among others. It is a not-for-profit organization.
