Passing of Brother Robert "Bob" Campbell, past UTE National President

Sisters and Brothers,

It is with great sadness that I announce that our former National President, Brother Robert "Bob" Campbell passed away this past Sunday.

Bob has been involved in our union for 42 years. He began his union career in 1974 as a steward in Local 60005 in Saint John, N.B. He was then successively elected Chief Steward, Secretary, Treasurer and President of the same Local.

In 1990, he was elected as Alternate Regional Vice-President for the Atlantic Region.

From 1993 to 1999, Brother Campbell was Regional Vice-President for the Atlantic Region.

He was elected 1st National Vice-President of our union in 1999 and was re-elected to this position until 2011.

Finally, Brother Campbell was elected National President of the Union of Taxation Employees (UTE) in 2011 and re-elected in 2014.

He has attended a multitude of UTE, PSAC, CLC conventions and has been chair or co-chair of several UTE national committees.

Brother Campbell was awarded UTE Life Membership in 2004.

He retired in 2017 following the Triennial Convention held in Ottawa.

Bob was a friend, mentor and undisputed leader to countless people within our great union but also to many others within the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC).

His departure represents a great loss.

On behalf of myself and the Union of Taxation Employees, I would like to extend our deepest condolences to his family and to his many friends and acquaintances and to all his former colleagues who have served and continue to serve in the ranks of the UTE.

All our thoughts and prayers are with his family in these very difficult times.

May he rest in peace.

Bob, you will be greatly missed.

In Solidarity,
