Daily Convention Highlights

The 2017 Triennial Convention began today and the President, 1st National Vice-President, the 2nd National Vice-President, the Regional Vice-Presidents, the Life Members and the Host Committee were piped in. We had an aboriginal welcome.  A moment of silence was observed to commemorate the members who had passed away since the last convention. Their names were displayed during this period. 

The Host Committee was introduced.  Donna Blair welcomed the convention delegates and observers on behalf of the Host Committee.  Ottawa Deputy Mayor Mark Taylor welcomed the attendees.

There were 165 delegates, 23 guests, 15 life members and 121 observers.  One late resolution was accepted and the regular per diem (Regulation 13) was accepted for convention.

The reports of the National President, the First National Vice-President and the Second National Vice-President were accepted.  The National President, Robert Campbell addressed the attendees.  He gave thanks to the local executives and stewards, the members of Executive Council and the National Office staff.  There was a standing ovation after the presidential address.

The Finance Resolutions Committee was called up.  Marc Brière, First Vice-President and Chair of the committee went through the various items that make up the budget.

After lunch, the Credentials Committee announced that we had 166 delegates, 23 guests, 15 life members and 120 observers for a total of 324 attendees. 

The Chair of the Nominations Committee, Betty Bannon introduced the other members of the committee, Jean Bergeron and Marcel Bertrand. She explained the nomination and voting process.

The Finance Resolution Committee was called back up.  There were discussions and questions on various budget line items.  The budget was approved.  The committee’s first recommendation, a dues increase, was defeated.  The second recommendation, a line item for promotional items to increase visibility at the PSAC National Convention was carried.
