Cancellation of the September 2020 UTE Presidents’ Conference

Hello Sisters and Brothers,

As you all know, the COVID-19 pandemic continues to  have a devastating impact in Canada and around the world.

Currently, Canadian provinces and territories are regularly modifying the restrictive measures that are being put in place, following the advice of public health authorities.

Mass gatherings are considered high-risk events because of the number of participants, the intensity of contact and the difficulty in mitigating the associated risks. It has been proven without any doubt that these large-scale events have the potential to cause serious public health consequences by amplifying the spread of COVID-19. Therefore, it is recommended that such gatherings continue to be prohibited for the foreseeable future.

The Union of Taxation Employees (UTE) Presidents' Conferences are part of these mass events.

For the province of Ontario, where our national conferences are held, the limit for indoor public gatherings is now set at 50 people.

We held a special meeting of the UTE Executive Council on July 10 to discuss the September 2020 Presidents' Conference.  Following that meeting, it was decided to cancel the conference scheduled for September 24-26, 2020.

In solidarity,
