REPORT OF THE SAFETY & HEALTH COMMITTEE

SEPTEMBER 2004

Chris Aylward Item 11(e)

Our committee has not met since last June. A meeting of the National Health
and Safety Policy committee was held on July 22nd. The minutes were just
approved and will be available on our Web site shortly.

A copy of the CRA Injury and Illness Policy was sent to all the locals.
It is a comprehensive source of information for employees and managers
on how to deal with employees who are injured, ill or have a medical condition.
It clearly deals with the legal requirement to ”accommodate” an
employee in the workplace and it also provides information on how to support
employees to access their benefits and entitlements.

The First Aid Safety and Health Policy is under review. We thank all the
locals that responded to our request for input. I attended a meeting in
August to discuss these proposed changes.

The Workplace Health and Safety Committee Member training course is being
revised to reflect the departure of the Customs side of CCRA. All of our
UTE trainers have confirmed their interest and availability to continue
to provide the training.

Respectfully submitted,

Chris Aylward

Chairperson of the Committee
