Report of the Honours and Awards Committee

September 2011

Denis Lalancette Item 11(g)

The Committee met August 23–25, 2011. We are attaching for your informationa copy of the meeting agenda. The Committee assessed and selected the recipients of two (2) national scholarships and ten (10) regional scholarships. We received sixty-eight (68) applications, an increase over previous years. Choosing the recipients is difficult because of the calibre of the candidates. The Committee members wish to congratulate all candidates.

The 2011 national scholarships, in the amount of $2,500, are awarded to:

The Diana Gee National Scholarship: Alanna Koenders, National Capital

The National Scholarship: Jessica Misfud, Greater Toronto

The 2011 regional scholarships, in the amount of $1,000, are awarded to:

The Al Rollins Atlantic Regional Scholarship: Karine Roy
The Québec Regional Scholarship: Roxanne Fraser
The Jean Bergeron Montréal Regional Scholarship: Audrey Bergeron
The National Capital Regional Scholarship: Matthew Darling
The Northern and Eastern Ontario Regional Scholarship: Kaelan Parker
The Southwestern Ontario Regional Scholarship: Casey Trader
The Greater Toronto Regional Scholarship: Matthew Cooper
The Prairie Regional Scholarship: Jamie Chalmers
The Don Davoren Rocky Mountains Regional Scholarship: David Fandrich
The Pacific Regional Scholarship: Brad Vanloo

The Committee also revised the UTE Guidelines and Application portal, and made some changes, which are highlighted in yellow. The Committee suggests that applications no longer be received by fax. Applications received by this mode are often illegible and smudged, which is unfair to the candidates while making the Committee members’ job more complicated. Applications should be submitted electronically or by regular post. The Committee will meet with the individuals with responsibility in this area to ensure the feasibility of this change. However, this is nothing new, as the system is already in place for registering for various conferences. The Committee will also set up an e-mail delivery confirmation system, something which has not previously existed.

The Committee received an application for the Godfroy Côté Award. The Committee assessed the application and the candidate meets the award criteria. The Committee recommends:

Recommendation No. 1

Be it resolved that …… …………. receive the Godfroy Côté Award.

Respectfully submitted,

Denis Lalancette,
Acting Chair of the Committee
