715 M$ in budget cuts at CRA: UTE predicts a sharp deterioration in public services

This morning, following this week's announcement by the Carney government, through the Minister of Finance and National Revenue, François-Philippe Champagne, to impose budget cuts of 15% on federal departments and agencies, the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) informed all its employees that it alone will have to reduce spending by $715 millions by the 2028-2029 fiscal year.

Bargaining at CRA: Dispute over job security provisions

Our PSAC-UTE bargaining team met with the Canada Revenue Agency on November 18-20 to continue negotiations for a new collective agreement.

Job security and workforce adjustment (WFA) were key topics discussed in this session. We again made it clear to the employer that these issues are priorities for us in this round of negotiations.

Canada is on Hold – Toolkit

Phase 2 of our national campaign is here, and your support makes the difference. This toolkit gives you ready-to-use resources to amplify our message. Every time you use them, you help put more pressure on the government and strengthen our collective voice.

Canada on Hold — Let’s Keep Up the Mobilization

Since the launch of our “Canada on Hold” campaign on August 21, thousands of citizens and businesses have mobilized to denounce to MPs and the Carney government the enormous difficulties in accessing the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) call centres and to demand answers to their questions.

This situation is a direct result of reckless cuts. Since May 2024, more than 3,300 CRA call-centre jobs have been eliminated.

More cuts at the CRA at the expense of the population

Today, May 1, 2025, as the world marks International Workers' Day, the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) has once again demonstrated its profound disrespect for its own employees. It was on this highly symbolic day that the CRA informed more than 1,000 of our term members working in Contact Centres across the country that their contracts will not be renewed when they expire on May 16.

No wage proposal from CRA, only concessions

Our PSAC/UTE Bargaining Team met with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) on January 20-22 to continue negotiations for a new collective agreement.

After this round of bargaining, it’s clear: the Agency is looking to destroy our working conditions and is doing nothing to address the needs and concerns of its employees. Including our buying power. We deserve better than this.
