Honourable Minister Fortier,

CRA virtual townhall meetings: setting the record straight

Sisters, Brothers and Friends,

During a series of virtual townhall meetings held earlier today, you may have heard the CRA Commissioner say that “the union refused to participate in mediation” or that “they didn’t show up”. He also indicated that the union declared “impasse” in the negotiations.

I would like to set the record straight and provide you with an accurate account of events.

CRA/Government Declare Impasse

Employer submits application to Public Service Labour Relations Board for establishment of a Public Interest Commission.

Chair of the Public Interest Commission has set dates for October

As per the Public Service Labour Relations Act, CRA filed for a Public Interest Conciliation (PIC) earlier this year following the breakdown of mediation talks.

Deal reached for PSAC-UTE members

In a victory for members at the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) who have gone above and beyond to support Canadians during this pandemic, PSAC-UTE has reached a tentative agreement that provides fair wages, no concessions and improved working conditions.

Government delaying negotiations for 35,000 PSAC-UTE members as strike continues

This government insists it cares about workers and building a strong public service. Yet for nearly two years, they’ve stalled and dragged out negotiations for our over 35,000 PSAC-UTE members, and denied us the fair wages and decent working conditions we deserve.

They forced us to secure an overwhelming strike mandate and take strike action to make any movement at the table.
