Report of the Honours and Awards Committee

The Committee members present, Gesine Campbell, Wayne Little, Denis Lalancette and Louise Dorion, a staff member, met on July 14 to 16 to determine the recipients of the UTE scholarships in accordance with Regulation 24.8. (See the list of recipients below). The letters for all winners and candidates were sent by the National Office.

The Committee members also reviewed Regulation 24 to see if everything is in order. A PowerPoint presentation on all of Regulation 24 will be given at the Presidents’ Conference in September. They also contacted a local in order to follow up on an award nomination request, but were unsuccessful. Here are a few of the Committee’s recommendations:

Recommendation 1

As provided for in By‑law 3, the Committee recommends the nomination of James Infantino as an Honorary Member.

Recommendation 2

The Committee recommends adding the following to Regulation 24.8 (in English only) under REQUIREMENTS after the 2^nd paragraph: A transcript of your most current academic standing. This is not applicable for anyone who has been out of school for more than two (2) years.

Recommendation 3

The Committee recommends that Regulation 24.8 under CRITERIA be amended to add the candidates’ length of involvement in sub-paragraph: Statement of your community involvement.

Recommendation 4

The Committee recommends amending Regulation 24.8 under CRITERIA in the 2^nd paragraph starting with: Preference may be given to people entering ……

So that it clearly identifies that it is the first year for each educational institution that preference may be given. Example: Bob may be given preference for a scholarship for his first year at university, his first year at college and his first year at an institute of higher learning.
