Report of the Call Centre Committee
December 2014

Jamie VanSydenborgh

The Committee has not met since the last meeting of the Executive Council in September.  The Committee (Brothers Jamie vanSydenborgh, Ken Bye and Kent MacDonald) and Sister Debbie Ferguson (Saint John) attended the PSAC Call Centre Roundtable November 13 & 14, in Ottawa.

The Roundtable meeting brought together representatives from Call Centres in various government departments, agencies and crown corporations.  The discussions involved differences in scheduling breaks, work environment, term employees and improving working conditions in call centres.

There was also discussion about the PSAC Call Centre Survey. We looked at the current results from approximately 600 responses, which represented 10% of the actual number of PSAC members that work in Call Centres.  The UTE numbers were less than 10% of the almost 3000 members we have that work in Call Centres.  The survey closed on November 30, 2014 and we sent out three reminders to locals, with Call Centres, to request members complete the questionnaire.    The results from the survey will be shared in early 2015.

Respectfully submitted,

Jamie VanSydenborgh
Chair of the Committee
