CONTRACT WITH THE OTTAWA HOTEL:
As mentioned in my last report, we had reached an agreement in principle with the Ottawa Marriott Hotel. I am pleased to announce that on June 17, we officially signed the contract with the hotel. The agreement runs for three years (2025-2026-2027). The agreement provides for the possibility, after a year and a half, i.e. in the summer of 2026, of exercising a clause allowing the contract to be extended for a further three years, i.e. for the years 2028 to 2030 inclusive. Room rates have already been negotiated for the additional three years.
We are excited to begin a new business relationship with the representatives and employees of the Ottawa Marriott Hotel. We are confident that this will be an opportunity to establish a mutually beneficial collaboration for both parties, and that UTE participants will appreciate this new environment in which to hold our meetings and conferences.
I would also like to take this opportunity to extend my warmest thanks to the staff of the Delta Hotel City Centre in Ottawa for their excellent service and kindness to our organization and our members over the past six years. It is with a heavy heart that we will be ending our business relationship at the end of 2024.
SELECTION PROCESS FOR A BILINGUAL POSITION OF LABOUR RELATIONS OFFICER (LRO):
On May 16, we posted a selection process for a bilingual Labour Relations Officer position. Interested candidates had until June 7 to apply.
We reviewed the resumes of those who applied for the position. Only two (2) candidates met the eligibility criteria.
The two successful candidates continued with the selection process and, unfortunately, neither was able to complete it successfully.
We therefore re-posted the position on August 19. Interested candidates have until September 27 to submit their applications.
SELECTION PROCESS FOR A BILINGUAL ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT POSITION:
Since my last report, we have reviewed the applications received and ranked them in accordance with the provisions of Article 44.04 of the Collective Agreement between the Alliance Employees Union (AEU), Unit V and the Union of Taxation Employees (UTE), to the effect that if there are no qualified candidates within the bargaining unit, the order of priority for staffing is as follows:
- Alliance Employees Union members ;
- Union of Taxation Employees members;
- General public.
Over the next few weeks, we intend to call some of the candidates who meet the eligibility criteria in the order set out in the above-mentioned article 44.04 to assess their ability to communicate in writing in both official languages before proceeding with the next stage of the selection process.
OTHER SELECTION PROCESSES:
We are continuing our work to finalize the work descriptions for the positions of Office Manager and Communications and Media Relations Officer. Once this task has been completed, we will be in a position to post selection processes to try and fill both positions.
Respectfully submitted,
Marc Brière
National President
