Report of the Ad-Hoc UMA/Conflict Resolution Committee

Report of the Ad-Hoc UMA/Conflict Resolution Committee
December 2014

Sabri Khayat

The Committee met Nov 18th, 2014 in the AM, for Union Management Approach (UMA) and in the PM, for the Conflict Resolution (CR).

Union Management Approach (UMA):

At the meeting, the employer advised us that they had received feedback on the Foundation Training, and suggested that we put a Working Group (WG) together to determine if the training was accomplishing its goal and look at timeframes on the actual training taking place.

The Union Taxation Employees (UTE) representatives stated that we wanted more time to go back to our Executive Council, and Locals to obtain feedback from the field, prior to agreeing to a WG to review the foundation training.

Information related to this will be sent to the field shortly requesting information on the training being done in the field.

The UMA Framework was discussed at the meeting and we are encouraging our Locals to discuss this framework with local UMA committees, and or Directors, to determine if UMA is being adhered to in each office.

We also encourage the UTE Council members to have this conversation with their respective regional UMA committees and or Assistant Commissioners in their Regions.

We would like to inform you that the Survey for the Union-Management Approach (Which was sent to you November 21st, 2014) will be slightly modified:

  • We will make a correction and be adding a tick-box to see if it's a manager or an Union representative who filed it
  • We will add, at the end, a thank-you note to the Quebec Region who has developed the survey.

Conflict Resolution (CR):

We are reminding Executive Council members and Locals to ensure that when Conflict Resolution Conversation Part 1 (CRC Part 1) training is taking place for UTE members, that it is done jointly by Union, management and practitioners; as has been agreed to by National Committee.

Respectfully submitted,
Sabri Khayat
