Report of the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) Committee

March 2009

Doug Gaetz Item 11(d)

1.   Annual CRA EAP National Business Meeting

On February 26, 2009, I, along with Sister Lyson Paquette, Technical Advisor, attended the Annual CRA EAP National Business meeting.

During this meeting, the following items were discussed:

  1. EAP Network Training
  2. Basic Training for Local Advisory Committee members (LAC)
  3. EAP Evaluation Consultation Groups
  4. CRA Mental Health Initiatives
  5. Priorities 2009-2012

You will find the minutes of this meeting attached to my report.  I would like to add that a pilot for the LAC will be held in the Atlantic this spring.

2.   National EAP Conference

Following the resolution adopted at the last triennial Convention, that reads:

333.  NATIONAL EAP CONFERENCE

WHEREAS the Employee Assistance Program is very important; and

WHEREAS the committee members must meet to discuss the future of EAP.

BE IT RESOLVED THAT UTE hold a National EAP Conference before our next triennial Convention in 2011; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT UTE fully fund the attendance of one (1) delegate per local to this National EAP Conference; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT UTE encourage locals to send local EAP committee members to this conference.”

Recommendation #1

The Committee recommend that the National EAP Conference be held November 19 to 21, 2010 in Ottawa.

3.   Questionnaire

Sister Paquette is working on a questionnaire to gather information on the operations of the LACs and obtain suggestions for improvement.   Moreover, the second part of the questionnaire is to find issues of interest for the next EAP

National Conference that will be held in 2010.  The questionnaire should be sent in April 2009.

Respectfully submitted,

Doug Gaetz
Chair of the Committee
