Our committee has not met since the last Executive Meeting in June. A meeting
of the National Health and Safety Policy was held on June 19th. The minutes
are not yet available.

Following our concerns raised at the June National UMC regarding the problems
encountered with the services being provided by Health Canada, Sister Ruel
and I met with Staff Relations representatives to discuss the delays in scheduling
health assessments, as well as the distance some offices have to travel to
go for assessment and the impact it has on our members. They are to follow
up on the specific problems identified. The whole issue of accommodation (or
lack of) was also discussed. We were informed that the Agency is in the process
of developing a policy and guidelines on accommodating / return to work / benefits.
It will include the benefits and sources of income maintenance to which employees
are entitled.

The regional conferences will be held in Toronto and in St.John’s in
October and November respectively.

Our committee will meet in early December to start discussing the agenda for
the National Health and Safety conference to be held in May 2004.
