REPORT OF THE POLITICAL ACTION COMMITTEE

MARCH 2006

 Kent MacDonald Item (m)

The Political Action Committee (PAC) last met February 20-22, 2006.

The all committee members were in attendance, with two guests and the
ex-officio in attendance a various times. The minutes of the meeting have
been distributed.

The PAC, through Louise Laporte PSAC Communications, has arranged for
a presentation on Lobbying by the Canadian Labour Congress to be given
during the March 2006 Presidents Conference. The PAC will also be providing
an update on the next phase of our Expenditure Review Committee (ERC) Campaign.

The community newspaper campaign trial will be taking place starting the
week of April 1st. The committee; in consultation with Louise Laporte,
choose one community per regional to purchase an ad with a community newspaper,
the approximate cost between $1000-1500. One of the main criteria was which
paper had the highest circulation. As of the writing of this report the
exact list of the papers was unavailable. This information will be disclosed
during the committees presentation to the March 2006 Presidents Conference.

The majority of the Canada Revenue Agency Board of Management have been
sent contact letters from members of the Executive Council. Unfortunately
none of the RVP’s have received an acknowledgement from any board
member. We do know that in one case that the letter was indeed received.

The committee is working with the Locals to develop a list of Primary
and Secondary Members of Parliament. This list will help both the locals
and the committees to know who we should be focusing our attention when
we see a need to communicate with MP’s in the future. This item will
be addressed with the Locals during the March 2006 Presidents Conference.

The Committee has established a list of, for lack of a better word “Important” MP’s.

This list is made up of:

  1. The four Party Leaders.
  2. The Revenue Minister and the three party critics.
  3. The Labour Minister and the three party critics.
  4. The Treasury Board Minister and the three party critics.
  5. The Finance Minister and the three party critics.

The committee has sent all of the above first contact letters.

The committee
is working with Susan Duncan on developing information documents about
politicians (Federal, Provincial and Municipal) that will be available
on the web site. The committee would like to thank both Susan and Louise
for all there assistance over the past couple of months.

Respectfully submitted.

Kent MacDonald

Chair of the Committee
