President’s Follow Up Items - Executive Council
June 2018

Marc Brière - Item 5

  • PHOENIX PAY SYSTEM - The usual process of changing the union dues of individual members using the electronic file through Public Services and Procurement Canada is still not operational. According to the information obtained from the PSAC in March, the system was supposed to be operational this spring, more specifically for the month of May 2018. The last follow-up was done on May 18 and unfortunately, Treasury Board still has not made a decision on this matter. The file is currently with PSAC’s lawyers. A memo will be sent to members when we have more information.

  • UNALLOTTED UTE MEMBERS – To rectify the situation, on February 2nd, my Executive Assistant, Brother Daniel Camara, sent you an email with a list (Excel table) for you to forward to your locals, asking them to fill out the Excel table by writing in column “P” the name and number of the Local where the member should be assigned. We received lists completed by locals from each Regional Vice-President. At the beginning, the list had 2,815 unallotted members, and our locals were able to assign 1,460 members.

Since the Phoenix pay system is still not able to process some modifications regarding our members’ union dues, we asked PSAC to provide us a new updated list. This list includes 2,281 UTE members not assigned to a local. I will ask again my Executive Assistant to send you an email with the new list (Excel table) for you to forward to your locals, asking them to fill out once again the Excel table.

  • BASIC ACCOUNTING TRAINING COURSE – The National Office has officially given one of our Finance Administration Officers, Liam Merrigan, the mandate to develop the course in collaboration with our Senior Labour Relations Officer, Brother Shane O’Brien. The format and content are still being developed, and more details will be provided to you in a timely manner.

  • JOB DESCRIPTIONS FOR NATIONAL OFFICE STAFF  The National Office has written a first draft of the Statement of Duties for the Administrative Assistant and the Executive Assistant to the National President, Sister Sylvie Bastien and Brother Daniel Camara. We expect to be able to finish the documents in the coming weeks in order to be sent to the PSAC for classification.

  • WORKSHOP FOR CHIEF SHOP STEWARDS – The Senior Labour Relations Officer, Shane O’Brien, is currently working on developing the workshop. The format and content are being developed and will be communicated to all locals so they can bring people interested in attending the workshop to the September 2018 Presidents’ Conference.

Respectfully submitted,

Marc Brière
National President
