September 30 marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, a day to honour Survivors of residential schools, their families and communities, and to remember the children who never returned home.
This day is also a reminder that reconciliation requires more than reflection. It requires continued learning and meaningful action. As a union, we have a role to play in challenging racism and discrimination against Indigenous Peoples in our workplaces and communities.
Wearing orange reminds us of the lasting impacts of the residential school system and affirms that every child matters.
On this National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, the Union of Taxation Employees (UTE) reaffirms its commitment to truth, learning and action. We encourage our members to listen to Indigenous voices, learn about the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action, and carry this work forward beyond September 30.
