PSAC congratulates Scott Brison on his appointment as President of the Treasury Board Secretariat and looks forward to working together to restore public services and improve working conditions for public sector workers.
“The integrity of and respect for the public service was a central issue during the election campaign for our members and for Canadians who rely on the vital services our members provide,” said Robyn Benson, National President of PSAC. “We look forward to turning the page and working together to rebuild and restore that trust.”
Labour rights
In a letter to Prime Minister Trudeau shortly after the election, Benson reiterated the Liberal party’s commitments to upholding labour rights, including repealing C-377 and C-525, as well as the offending provisions of Bill C-10, Bill C-4 and Bill C-59.
“There is much work to be done in rebuilding labour-relations and we look forward to resuming negotiations with the federal government, in the spirit of collaboration and mutual respect,” added Benson.
Public services
Benson has also called on the Liberal government to re-open as soon as possible the nine Veterans’ Affairs offices closed by the previous government, reminding Prime Minister Trudeau that there are many other areas where services need to be restored and enhanced.
Equality rights
PSAC is committed to equality rights and was pleased to see that the new cabinet reflects gender parity for the first time in Canadian history. The union hopes to see the Liberal government move quickly to strike down unfair changes to federal pay equity legislation that were made by the Harper Conservatives.
“Canadians voted for change and we look forward to working with the new government to make that happen,” said Benson.
