Canada is on Hold—Let’s Take a Stand

Canada is on Hold—Let’s Take a Stand

Right now, CRA call centre workers are being hit hard.
Since May 2024, more than 3,300 jobs have been cut—and more cuts are coming.

Wait times have exploded to as long as 3.5 hours, and fewer than 5% of callers are reaching an agent.

Across Canada, the effects are being felt:

  • Missed payments
  • Delayed support
  • Hours on hold with no answer

These reckless cuts are undermining the critical services Canadians rely on every day.
They’re hurting families, seniors, students, and small businesses—and they’re pushing workers to the breaking point with more stress, heavier workloads, and fewer resources to serve you.

This isn’t just about job numbers.
It’s about protecting public service.
It’s about respect—for you, and for every Canadian who deserves timely, reliable support.

That’s why we’re taking action—and why we need you with us.

Today, the Union of Taxation Employees (UTE) and the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) are launching a national campaign to raise awareness, mobilize Canadians, and push back against these destructive decisions.

Our first focus: the massive job cuts in CRA contact centres.
This campaign is for everyone who depends on public services—your voice and your story matter.

Here’s how you can take action right now:

  • Email your MP – Tell them these cuts are unacceptable and that Canadians deserve better. Send an Email
  • Share your story – Have you faced long waits, dropped calls, or delays getting help from the CRA? Your experience can help show what’s at stake. Share your story
  • Write to the CRA Ombudsperson – Let them know if you’ve faced dropped calls, excessive wait times, or had trouble reaching an agent. Your voice helps hold the system accountable. Submit a complaint

When Canadians stand together and speak with one voice, we make things happen.
We can demand better—better services, better access, and better support for everyone who counts on them.

Why your voice matters

You have the power to make change happen.
When Canadians speak out, we put pressure on government, shape the conversation, and make decision-makers listen.

Your voice can protect the services you rely on—and the people who deliver them.

Now is the time to act.
Stand with us to preserve public services and defend the workers who keep them running.
Together, we can make sure you and your community get the timely, reliable support you deserve.

Thank you.
