POSITION TITLE: Assistant Financial Officer

EMPLOYMENT TYPE: *Term

CLASSIFICATION: Band 7 - $53,031 to $59,688 per annum
(+ $1,000 per annum bilingual allowance)

LANGUAGE: Bilingual (English and French)

LOCATION: Ottawa

* NOTE: The duration of this term position is anticipated to be up to one (1) year but may be shorter or longer based on business needs.

THE JOB
Under the general direction of the Financial Administration Officer, to assist in the provision of all accounting and financial services for the Union of Taxation Employees.

DUTIES
The Assistant Financial Officer is responsible for verifying invoices, expense claims, salaries, overtime and leave, calculating and posting to proper accounts within the proper AccPac for Windows module, maintaining different manual ledgers for travel advances, expenditures, leave, etc…

QUALIFICATIONS
Possession of two year Diploma from a recognized institution related to accounting and/or bookkeeping or equivalent through work experience. Proven administrative skills. Demonstrates competence with computer technology in a Windows environment (i.e. data base, spreadsheet, word-processing, e-mail and internet). Knowledge of AccPac for Windows Financial Software and Microsoft Word, Excel and Access. Knowledge of bookkeeping practices. Oral and written communication skills composition, spelling and grammar). Interpersonal skills, including the ability to deal with aggressive individuals. Knowledge of general office procedures and skills in the use of general office equipment. General understanding of Unions. Knowledge of accounting principles, practices and techniques. Knowledge of collective agreements as they apply to staff and the UTE membership. Knowledge of the Income Tax Act, CPP Act and the EI Act as it relates to payroll, remittances and the legislative requirements.
