Persons Day

October 18 is Persons Day in Canada!

It marks the day in 1929 when the historic decision to include women in the legal definition of “persons” was handed down by Canada’s highest court of appeal. This gave women the right to be appointed to the Senate of Canada and paved the way for women's increased participation in public and political life.

Transgender Day of Remembrance

Trans rights are human rights

Today is the Transgender Day of Remembrance. On this day, PSAC mourns and commemorates the trans, two-spirit and non-binary people who have lost their lives to transphobia.

Transphobia manifests in many forms – physical attacks, anti-trans policies, employment barriers, lack of healthcare or mental health support, discrimination, including the discriminatory invasion of trans bodies and more.

World Aids Day

World AIDS Day, observed on December 1st every year, is dedicated to raising awareness of the AIDS epidemic caused by the HIV infection. It is also a time for reflection on what has been achieved by the national and global response to HIV/AIDS – and what still needs to be done.

December 1st also marks the beginning of Aboriginal AIDS Awareness Week in Canada.
