Re: Discontinuing Counter Access

As you are likely aware, the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) will be discontinuing counter access within all Tax Services Offices and Tax Centres in Canada.

Effective October 1, 2012 and within specific offices, the CRA will implement Phase 1 of the discontinuing process.

Effective October 1, 2013, Phase II will be implemented in those offices unaffected by Phase I.

In order to facilitate this change of service and at the end of the transaction with the client, members are being advised to communicate the discontinuing of counter access and provide a list of the CRA’s alternate service options.

The Questions and Answers issued August 13, 2012 also outline what services will be discontinued.

The Union of Taxation Employees opposes any change that negatively affects our members’ positions and service delivery to the general public.

For this reason and as a symbol of our opposition to this change, all Locals are asked to distribute to their respective members the buttons that read, “You’ll miss us when we’re gone!”

An explanation of the reason for the distribution and wearing of the buttons should also be provided to the members.

For any questions / comments / concerns related to the above, please contact your RVP.

Thank you in advance for your continued support and cooperation.
