Gary Esslinger was elected to the position of Regional Vice-President at the 2011 UTE Triennial Convention in Montreal. He was re-elected in July 2014, 2017 and 2021. He is responsible for the Winnipeg, Winnipeg Taxation Centre, Winnipeg Compensation Client Service Centre, and Regina locals.
Union Involvement
Since 1980, Gary has been actively involved with the Union in various capacities. He was appointed a strike captain during the 1980 CR strike and subsequently elected Chief Shop Steward at the WTCs (Local 50031) inaugural AGM. In 1984 Gary was elected Regional Vice President a position he held until 1993. Gary was then again active in the local firstly as a Chief Shop Steward and then in 2002 was elected to the position of Treasurer a position he held until 2011. From 2002 until 2011 he also served as the alternate RVP. At 2011 UTE triennial convention Gary was elected Regional Vice President. Gary was re-elected to this position in 2014.
Since 1981 Gary has attended every UTE and PSAC convention representing the membership.
Union Committees
Gary is the Chair of the Communications Committee and co-chair of the By-laws Committee and the Honours and Awards Committee.
Over his tenure as RVP Gary served as Chair of the Finance Committee and the Technological Change Committee on several occasions. Prior to becoming an agency Gary had twice been elected to sit on the National PSAC Bargaining Team representing the PM group through two rounds of bargaining.
