Did you know that, in addition to UTE scholarships, there are other awards available to honour UTE members?

Here are descriptions of the awards and how to nominate a member for each of them:

  • The Union of Taxation Employees’ Humanitarian Award
    • This award is limited to one recipient per year.  The recipient will be selected by the Honours and Awards Committee from the applications received.
    • All nominations for this award must be submitted to the Chairperson of the Honours and Awards Committee by December 15th at 23:59 (EST) of each year.
    • The award shall be a suitably inscribed plaque and will include an award of two thousand five hundred dollars ($2,500.00).
    • The monetary award will be paid to the cause espoused by the recipient or to a charity of their choice.
    • Nominees must:
      • Be a UTE member in good standing;
      • Have demonstrated their commitment to a humanitarian cause where there is extreme need;
      • Have exhibited exemplary service to others within their community, their country or throughout the world.
        • Definition of exemplary Service:
          • Serving as an example by demonstrating union values.
          • Admirable, commendable, ideal model, praiseworthy or exceptional.
  • UTE Community Service Award
    • The award shall be a suitably inscribed framed certificate.
    • Nominees must:
      • Be UTE members in good standing;
      • Have demonstrated their dedication and commitment to their cause(s).
      • Definition of dedication and commitment:
        • Involvement in their cause(s) for at least two (2) years;
        • Serving as an example;
      • The application shall contain the following;
        • Name of the nominee;
        • Who the submission is from;
        • Introduction of the nominee;
        • Short biography;
        • Detailed information as to the nominee’s activities in the community; and
        • Detailed information indicating the time devoted and the level of achievement attained.

Look around your office. Undoubtedly you have members who espouse commitment and caring for others, whether it be within the Community or going above and beyond the call of duty to provide aid.  Such people deserve to be recognized.

In addition to these National awards, Locals can set up provisions to recognize Local members similarly. Changes may be required to your Local by-laws and/or regulations. Locals seeking advice on how to make the changes required so they can begin recognizing excellence in your members should contact their Regional Vice President.
