Gwen Jackson

Sister Jackson was awarded Life Membership in 1998.

Gwen started working at the Ottawa District Office in 1974.  She was a proud member of Ottawa Local 70010 holding positions of Steward and First Vice President.  In 1981, she was elected Alternate Regional Director for the National Capital Region; becoming Regional Director in 1982.   She held this position with UTE until the fall of 1997 when she relocated with her family to Pickering, Ontario. 

In August 1998, Gwen moved to Calgary; returning to Revenue Canada in 2000.  She served as Vice President and then President of Calgary Local 70024 until her retirement from the Federal Government in October 2008. 

Gwen has been active in all levels of the union movement throughout her working career.  Her passion for equity issues guided her involvement in Women’s Issues, Health & Safety and Technological Change.  Outside of her positions with UTE, she was a Health & Safety instructor with the Ontario Workers Health & Safety Center and an Alliance Facilitator.  She has been a member of various national UTE Committees including Health & Safety and Tech Change Committee.  She represented UTE on the PSAC Equal Opportunities Committee and PSAC on various committees with the Ontario Federation of Labour.   Gwen also served on the Prairie Regional Council as the Southern Alberta Representative during her term in Calgary.     

Gwen is currently working as Office Manager for a manufacturing company in Calgary and volunteering as Treasurer for her Community Association.
