Gerard Ennis, President of the St. John's Local 90001, received the honorary title of Life Member at the 2011 Triennial Convention.

Gerard Ennis was born on May 28, 1955 in St. John’s NL, and began his career with this Union when he signed his union card 35 years ago.

Gerard has been an avid supporter of UTE, St. John’s Tax Services Office Local 90,001 and has served its members well for over 23 years as a Local Executive Officer.  He has held the positions of Treasurer and President and worked relentlessly on behalf of the UTE membership.

Gerard served on UTE’s National Equal Opportunities Committee representing GLBT for 8 years and served on PSAC’s National EOC Committee for 5 years also representing GLBT. He also joined the Canadian Labour Congress Human Rights Working Group Committee and served on that committee for two years. Gerard has a passion and commitment to the GLBT community in protecting rights and promoting inclusion. Gerard was a pioneer, paving the way and establishing the legal rights of gay parents.

Gerard participated in 5 UTE Conventions, 4 PSAC Conventions, and various other employer and union committees during  his  union career.

Gerard retired in 2011 and today he is happily married to the love of his life, Monty. They met in 1986 and married in 2005.They have 4 children ranging in ages from 29 thru 44 and 5 grandchildren ranging in ages from 3 months to 25 years . They enjoy spending quality time with family and friends both at their winter home in Saint Cloud FL and their summer residence in St. John’s NL.
