Jocelyne Roy Receives the Godfroy Côté Award

Jocelyne Roy and Jean-Pierre Fraser

At the last inter-regional meeting for the Montreal Region, held in Gatineau in August, special recognition was given to Sister Jocelyne Roy from Local 10006 of Quebec.  Specifically, she received the Godfroy Côté award for her commitment to the UTE.

Jocelyne will be leaving the CRA after 35 years of service and nearly 20 years of dedication to the Quebec local and the UTE, including 18 years as President.

She came on board at a time when the local was going through a turbulent period during which the local was put under trusteeship.  Despite her lack of experience in this area at that time, Jocelyne rallied people to her vision and worked hard with her team to get the Local back on track.

Over time, Jocelyne was actively involved in many UTE and PSAC conventions. In 1999, she was instrumental in making a difference for the UTE triennial convention to be a huge success.

Jocelyne managed to create and maintain a harmonious atmosphere with all levels of management at the Eastern Quebec Tax Services Office, while adamantly ensuring that members’ rights were respected. To do so, she continually managed to have a team around her that knew how to maintain respectful relationships with management and thereby obtain its co-operation for resolving countless matters.

Jocelyne was also heavily involved with the local Health and Safety Committee for over 16 years and held the position of Co-Chair of that Committee for all that time. She has always reinvented herself and ensured that other Committee members received the necessary training by attending the various regional or national conferences.

The award ceremony took place in the presence of all UTE Presidents from the Quebec and Montreal regions, many observers, the Executive Assistant to the National President Annette Melanson, the 2nd National Vice-President Denis Lalancette, two Regional Vice-Presidents, Jean-Pierre Fraser and Sabri Khayat. Despite his absence, National President Bob Campbell sent along a congratulatory speech that was read by Brother Fraser.

Her Local, consisting of Gisèle Pelletier, André Michaud, Daniel Walsh and Jean-Pierre Daigle, also paid tribute to her on this special occasion.

Congratulations Jocelyne, and thank you for your work over all these years.
