Remove labour law changes from budget bill, Robyn Benson tells parliamentary committee

November 26, 2013

PSAC National President Robyn Benson urged the House of Commons Finance Committee today to remove the proposed changes to the Public Service Labour Relations Act (PSLRA) from Bill C-4. The changes were made without consultation and undermine good labour relations in the federal public service.

PSAC appeared before the committee and presented its brief, which outlines the problems with the radical and unprecedented changes being made to the labour law. Benson told the committee that the changes stack the deck against workers when it comes to collective bargaining, the choice of dispute resolution, essential services designation and arbitration.

“Bill C-4 essentially ignores the fundamental principles of freedom of association and the right to strike,” said Benson.
