Questions for Federal Candidates from the Political Action Committee

Federal elections provide an opportunity for Canadians to review where the candidates and their parties stand on the issues. As a guide, UTE has prepared some sample questions on issues that are important to our members.  You can ask these questions of your candidates when they come to your door looking for your vote, in meetings, and in all-candidates town hall sessions.

Issues:

  • The Canada Revenue Agency’s departure from walk-in service at Tax Services Offices
  • The implementation of self-service kiosks at TSO with computers, but without printers.
  • The elimination of providing printouts on demand at TSOs
  • The closure of certain CRA tax operations offices
  • The movement towards one-stop and unspecialized service at Service Canada Centres

Questions:

Will you and your party commit to maintaining full person-to-person counter service available at all Tax Services Offices?

Will you and your party commit to providing the same high level of quality, specialized, secure, and prompt service to Canadians that the CRA has provided in the past?

Is, or will, your constituency office be prepared to handle the flood of tax related enquiries they will receive once the in-person service offered at TSOs changes?

Do you believe that sensitive, confidential taxpayer information should remain in the exclusive care and control of the CRA, or be shared by all partners at Service Canada Centres?

Will you and your party commit to no new closures of tax operations offices anywhere in the country?

The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) is moving to regionalized models of operation that will eventually eliminate face to face service for all of their business lines. This will erode the service that Canadians pay taxes to have and deserve to have. The government is hiding these reductions in service under budget cuts when they can not prove there will be any savings. Will you and your party openly question the way CRA does business and question the Minister in the House?
