President’s Follow Up Items
Executive Council
September 2004

Betty Bannon - Item 5

  • The report on donations now shows if the donation was approved by the Council or the President and 1st NVP.

  • An Office Committee to determine the present and future space requirements was established comprised of two members of the Finance Committee, one AEU representative and the President (Bob Campbell, Pamela Abbott, Shane O’Brien and Betty Bannon). A report and recommendation will be presented to Council at this meeting.

  • I spoke with the PSAC President regarding the new rules on deducting union dues for Terms and have also e-mailed Jacquie de’Aguayo on the issue. I am awaiting the position of the Alliance regarding these changes.

  • Regional signs have been made for pre-arranged seating at this Presidents Conference and the RVPs will draw the seating during the Council meeting.

  • The Presidents Conference will open with a moment of silence for those members that have passed away since we last met and via this report I will ask for the Council’s opinion on whether or not we should open every Presidents Conference with the singing of “Solidarity Forever”.

  • I have yet to asked the CRA to write a bulletin for our locals regarding the rules surrounding the necessity of having and obtaining a CRA account for source deductions remittances on monies paid by the local to members. We have experienced some difficulties with a Payroll Audit that was conducted on one of our locals and I have asked for some expertise on the issue of required deductions and certain payments made by the union to its’ members.

  • During the Presidents Conference the locals will be asked to supply a list of names of the members who have transferred to the CBSA. The National Office will then check the lists to ensure that the proper transfer have taken place.

  • We have become aware that there is now a unionized printer in Ottawa. I have asked the RVP from NCR to supply me with the name and contact details in order to contact them and requests price quotes etc.
