REPORT OF THE EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM
September 2008

The Committee did not meet since the last Executive Council Meeting.

I have met with the LRO responsible for EAP last week and we discussed the Evaluation of the CRA Employee Assistance Program, June 2008, and provided our final comments on the report.  In our comments to the employer, we have stressed our position that the Unions should be involved at all stages of the development of action plans including working groups.

A memorandum along with the report and the highlights was sent electronically to the RVP’s and the Local Presidents.

Although the report recommends that referral agents be maintained, it is still UTE’s position that we do not support having referral agents. This was endorsed at the UTE Triennial Convention this past July by the delegates to convention.

I would also like to express our gratitude to Hector Walters who will not be re-offering as the members’ representative on the committee. We wish him all the best.

The committee would also like to thank the former chair, Jerry Dee, for all of his contributions and work that he has put into this committee over the last couple of years and wish him all the best in his retirement.

Next meeting for the National Advisory Committee is tentatively scheduled for November 13, 2008.
