If debate prolonged:
Set time limit
Limit speaking time per member
Keep to the subject:
Help to phrase motion, if necessary
Repeat motion
Prevent cross talk address chair only

Prepare agenda before hand
Follow agenda
Keep things moving
Announce agenda items as they come up. This could be 1st VP's
task.
Guest Speakers
Obtain a brief curriculum vitae about the speaker
Learn subject to be dealt with
Short snappy introduction
Thanks afterwards, perhaps by VP
Short Cuts
Prepare and distribute agenda well in advance. You will be
amazed how readily even intricate problems can be resolved if members
have had time to study and discuss them prior to a meeting
Prepare resumé of lengthy correspondence
Study committee reports as a whole, where possible rather
than item by item.
General
Be sure to have a quorum (The number of members whose presence
is required before a meeting can legally take action).
Try to start on time and have a time limit.
Chairperson should only vacate the Chair and "take the floor" under
exceptional circumstances.
