RE: LOCAL STRIKE/MOBILIZATION PREPARATION

Sisters and Brothers:

The members of the PSAC/CCRA Bargaining Team met from July 12 to July 15 and agreed on the choice of demands to submit to the employer at the beginning of August. These demands will then be posted for you on the PSAC, UTE, and CEUDA web sites. We believe that these demands will meet our members' requirements and expectations.

The members of our National Strategy/Strike Committee also met on July 15. Officials from the PSAC Regional Offices responsible for the structure of the PSAC/CCRA strike/mobilization/communication have been identified. They have been advised to set up immediately the procedures and training needed for the smooth running of this structure in order to achieve our bargaining objectives.

A meeting involving Sisters Turmel and Bannon and Brother Moran with CCRA Management was held on July 21 to develop and finalize the procedures for our bargaining process. The notice to bargain will be submitted to the CCRA on August 1 and bargaining will begin around August 25. A PSAC bulletin will be issued shortly to provide you with more details on the contents of the above paragraphs.

We are informally asking that you set up your local strike/mobilization structures such as picketing committees, communication committees, assistance committees, and action committees. You now need to identify the people in charge of each committee you consider necessary, to bring your members list up to date if not already done, to make provision for the material you will need for pressure tactics, and to get your PSAC strike manual out and make it your bedtime reading.

We ask that you contact your PSAC Regional Office to plan or assist with the set-up of your strike/mobilization structure. We ask that you be ready for the beginning of August.
